In my personal list of the Top Ten Time Machines ever concieved, the DeLorian Time Machine lords over them all with a Stainless Steel Fist!!
Also, saying that the Back to The Future Trilogy is among my favorite films of all time is a serious understatement.
To wit: Pictured here is my 3D Recreation of the DeLorian Time Machine. Designed in Cinema 4D 8.5 for the Mac, and then used in a project that became an advertisment for the three films on the Sci-Fi channel. It was also my first creation of an object with over 2,800 polygons! Another neat thing is that the model as pictured WOULD render out real-time to Playstation 2, and GameCube hardware.
This would be what I consider to be the Mark II version of the car... The Hover Conversion is present, but not visible, but you can see the "Mr. Fusion" powerplant that came to power the Flux Capacitor in the second Film. Note the Authentic 'OUTTATIME' license plate.
Actually, no - it wouldn't. Many poygons are hidden- Namely the interior, which I spent a pretty hefty amount of time getting it to a respectable level...
In any case, it's Poly count is comperable to that of a vehicle from Grand Theft Auto III (PS2).
While you are TECHNICALLY right, the vehicle alone (without the shaded transparency) would render realtime on a 386... maybe at 400 resolution, Nothing else would be able to be displayed - and that would make for a pretty boring situation...
Thus in Practicality, I'm afriad, I must remain on my PS2 diagnosis.
...But thanks for the interest.

Well, its a bit too low poly for me... i mean if it hasnt to be rendered in realtime by a home pc (games) there is no need to keep the poylcount that low.
But what you have done with those few polys is quite impressive, however the render is not the best

Well, opinions aside, I would like to make a note that this piece was done roughly 7 months ago, using my computer, which had and still has running only Mac OS 9.2, on outdated 3D software...
And essentially what I did was pick up the program, install it, and then I proceeded to teach myself the program without any guides or classes - My background is Adobe After Effects, where I manufacture media and television/movie commercials for companies like Reading Truck Body, Adidas, and Calloway Golf products.
Essentially, what I'm saying is, I'm not much more than a noodler - I don't have the time to lean the software as well as an expert does -after all, when I need a 3D rendering done professionally, I have 30 people who work for the firm who do it day and day out.
With that being said, any comments on the Technique, structure, or such things would be appreciated, because - as I said, my real skills lie elsewhere.

Very nice work for your first time. Also ... 2800 is a very reasonable poly count. So much can be done with it and most of the modellers on the teams with higher poly counts waste countless polies at the expense of the end gamer (eg. lag). But after more practise you could use your polies more effectively I think.
